FLINT, MI – Hamilton Community Health Network hosted the Second Annual Chat & Chew: Breast Cancer Review on Saturday, October 20. The event returned to the Flint Farmers’ Market in pink fashion.

University of Michigan Chief Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Michael Scott Sabel returned to Chat & Chew with updates on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and research. Hamilton’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Giacalone, Jr. praises Dr. Sabel for being a key figure in getting Hamilton’s breast care clinic up and running.

Dr. Sabel was joined on the Chat & Chew panel with Laura Sewell, CFm of Wright & Filippis, and Nekeyta Brunson, owner of UnCovered. Sewell is a certified mastectomy fitter. She educated women on pre- and post-mastectomy consultations that Wright & Filippis offers, as well as other resources.

Brunson showed women how to be confident when they lose their hair. As she told her story of living with alopecia, she removed her wig and tied a scarf on her head. Brunson topped off her look with a nice pair of shades.

Survivors got the chance to have a bit of fun during the first Survivor Fashion Show Competition. The winners are:

Best Pinkest: Sherrissa Powell-Hayes

Most Creative: Teresa Davison

Best Presentation: Lavern Lock

The day was full of education, but also featured music by DJ Smuvi, and raffle gift cards provided by Molina Healthcare and Genesee Health Plan.
