Dial The Area Code To Make Way For 988

The New Number for Suicide Prevention Line

You may have had to think twice this week when dialing some phone numbers, you still have memorized. If you are in Michigan’s 810, 616, 906, 989 you are now required to dial the area code for a call to be connected.

We are very excited about this move. The 10-digit dialing requirement will provide use of 988 as the National Suicide Prevention Line.

Similarly, to how we easily reference 911 for emergencies, come July 16th we will be able to easily reference 988 for any type of suicide crisis instead of needing to call the current 1-800-273-TALK, 11-digit, number for assistance.

But until the 988-emergency number goes into effect in July, individuals can reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK).

If you’re looking to talk with someone locally, Hamilton provides various counseling services. You can call 810-406-4246 (dial all 10-digits) to schedule an appointment to get the help you deserve.

Remember you are not alone, and we are here to help!
